Christopher Townsend chosen for Wellingborough and Rushden
North Northamptonshire Liberal Democrats appoint Christopher Townsend as Liberal Democrat candidate for Wellingborough and Rushden for the General Election
Last week North Northamptonshire Liberal Democrats selected their candidate for Wellingborough and Rushden, Christopher Townsend. An experienced campaigner, Christopher has been a member of the party since university. He has campaigned actively on national policies around environmental issues, but also on issues including local school crossings close to his home – especially important to Christopher as he has three young children. Professionally, Christopher has worked as a director within finance, and is currently a manager within engineering. He has a huge wealth of professional and public experience to draw on, working through the financial crisis, and more recently supporting the UK’s defence capability. He isn’t afraid of talking to senior leaders, tackling difficult issues, and always gets his point across.
Christopher has served as an elected councillor for 16 years, giving him great experience in how government operates – and the importance of making it work to the benefit of local people. Talking about his commitment to building a fairer society, Christopher said “I know all about the challenges of delivering policy in the real world, and I have always been honest with voters about those challenges. We must not promise everything to everyone. Difficult choices have to be made, but working together we can come up with good solutions.”
Wellingborough and Rushden deserve a forward looking, active and genuine Member of Parliament – someone who is honest about the challenges that the Conservatives have left for us, but focused on delivering a fairer community that builds towards a better future. Christopher believes that there shouldn’t be a choice between a strong economy or a compassionate welfare system – that we can deliver both with liberal policies. Summing it up, Christopher said: “There is such a thing as society, and it is vitally important that leaders are always led by their communities”
If elected, Christopher will:
- Fight to build the homes our communities need, in the places they need them, and with the services that are essential to making houses into homes, and estates into communities.
- Ensure that local services deliver improved care for our most vulnerable residents – society must take care of those who most need help.
- Tackle the shortage of NHS dentists and GPs in our area – demanding a new contract and a new approach to help patients get seen when they need it.
- Tackle the environmental crisis facing the world by supporting renewable energy, and supporting efforts to reuse and reinvest in our brownfield sites.
- Be your voice in Westminster, and never Westminster’s voice in Wellingborough and Rushden.
