Christopher Townsend - Fighting for a fair deal for Wellingborough and Rushden

Christopher out and about in Rushden

Christopher's Background

Christopher is a family man, married with 3 young children. He has been an active Liberal Democrat since University days and has campaigned on many issues. From national green policy to getting a new school crossing in his neighbourhood; he likes to get things done. Professionally Christopher has worked as a director in finance and is currently an engineering manager. He has an enormous amount of real world experience, having worked through the Financial Crisis and, latterly, supporting the U.K.’s defence capability. He is used to dealing with senior leaders and always gets his point across.

Christopher is also a successful local politician. He has been an elected councillor for 16 years, including a period as mayor of Tring, and in that time has developed a deep understanding of how governance needs to work for the benefit of local people, saying: ‘’I know all about the challenges of delivering policy in the real world, and I have always been honest with voters about those challenges; we must not promise everything to everyone. Difficult choices have to be made, but working together we can come up with good solutions.’’

Christopher developed a passion for politics partly through his disappointment with the Tory's manifest negligence towards the communities that they purport to serve. He believes there is such a thing as society, and it is vitally important that leaders are always lead by their communities. At heart, Christopher is an old-fashioned liberal - wanting a strong economy balanced by a compassionate welfare system.

Christopher's Campaign Priorities

  • Fight to build the homes our communities need, in the places they need them, and with the services that are essential to making houses into homes, and estates into communities.
  • Ensure that local services deliver improved care for our most vulnerable residents – society must take care of those who most need help.
  • Tackle the shortage of NHS dentists and GPs in our area – demanding a new contract and a new approach to help patients get seen when they need it.
  • Tackle the environmental crisis facing the world by supporting renewable energy, and supporting efforts to reuse and reinvest in our brownfield sites.
  • Be your voice in Westminster, and never Westminster’s voice in Wellingborough and Rushden.
